The Anhui-based University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) took the 143rd place in a list of 500 best global universities.
The top 500 universities rankings for 2015 was released by US News, an American multi-platform publisher of news and information on education, in cooperation with Thomson Reuters Co., a major multinational mass media and information firm.
27 Chinese universities cracked the top 500, including Peking University and Tsinghua University, which finished No.39 and No. 67, respectively.
Those 500 institutions from 50-odd countries were ranked based on 10 indicators that measured their academic research performance and their global and regional reputations.
The top 10 were shared by 8 US-based universities and 2 British ones: Oxford (5th) and Cambridge (6th).
As one of the top universities in China, the USTC, based in Hefei, capital of East China's Anhui province, has been renowned for scientific strength since it was founded by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1958.
